1. Clothing and attire
a. Wear a white shirt and trousers,
cotton if possible. No shorts, no sandals, no red or
yellow shirts or jackets. This includes rain or foul
weather gear.
b. Belt to anchor radio.
c. Gloves, to protect your hands
(bright orange for visibility, cotton or leather for
safety).
d. Hat or cap to protect your head
from the sun, and shade your eyes. May be used with a
cloth towel to shade your neck.
e. Rain suit or foul weather gear. A
large plastic trash bag will suffice.
2. Equipment
a. Whistle, to attract attention.
b. Pencil and pad for notes (example:
Passing on a waving yellow flag).
c. Binoculars to observe a rider at
distance (optional).
d. Cooler for snacks, water and soft
drinks (no alcoholic beverages).
e. Bug repellant
f. Sunscreen
3. Conduct
a. Professional and above reproach at
all times.
b. Use of personal vehicles,
motorcycles or pit bikes is allowed at many tracks.
However, hot laps or excessive speed will not be
allowed in the paddock, pits or on the track while en
route to and from your corner station. (No
exceptions.)
c. Competitors who crash or have
mechanical difficulties during a race or practice
session may be emotionally charged (adrenaline). This
may give rise to abnormal behavior. Ignore this
behavior, offer assistance in moving both the rider
and his equipment to a safe location. Ask if they
want medical attention or if they need the crash
truck for transportation back to the paddock.
Encourage the rider to sit down and relax until the
race in progress is completed. Inform the rider you
have requested the recovery vehicle.
