01-29-09 For Immediate Release
Norco, CA (January 29, 2009); "Diamond Don Rocks Houston" ~ After another great promotional success at the Anaheim Stadium for round 4 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, the team headed off to the Houston Astrodome. This time, AHRMA members, Diamond Don and Doug Gagnon were the team leaders.
AHRMA again received first class treatment from Feld, Inc., promoters of the Supercross series. Set in a prime location, the AHRMA booth was mobbed with people who thoroughly enjoyed seeing the old bikes. Interest ran high and AHRMA picked up several new members at this venue. Steve Wise hung out in the booth for quite a while and of course he was a big draw! Steve spent hours signing autographs and sharing stories with all who visited the booth. Without a doubt, we are all expecting to see him back on a bike soon!
Perhaps the most memorable part of the weekend was when Diamond Don bumped into Johnny O’Mara while moving his truck into the VIP parking. “Oh Hey, there’s Diamond Don” Johnny was heard saying to his friends. “Who’s Diamond Don?” they asked Johnny “O”. “Oh my, Diamond Don is famous” Johnny replied. Johnny and Diamond go way back in the sport of motocross racing and have been friends for years. The two can never seem to get enough of each other.
At the end of the night, the Houston team closed up shop and prepared the AHRMA booth equipment for its long journey back to the west coast for the San Francisco Supercross the next weekend. A special thanks goes out the Rory of Bridgestone Tires…. Without his support with transporting our equipment and displaying his post-vintage Yamaha at all our venues, it would be much more difficult to obtain our goals of educating the general public about the historical aspect of motorcycle racing. |
