2009
Monster Energy® AMA Supercross AHRMA Display
Anaheim 2 ~ January 17, 2009
After
a great public response at Anaheim I and Phoenix, AHRMA members
looked at Anaheim II as another golden opportunity to bring vintage
motorcross into the eyes and minds of race fans from all around. On
January 17, 2009 thousands of spectators gathered at Angel Stadium
in Anaheim for round 3 of the
2009
Monster Energy® AMA Supercross
series. This was the perfect opportunity for AHRMA members and
activists to spread the word about the world of vintage motorcycle
racing. Even in the shadow of many large vendors and
competitors such as Chad Reed, James Stewart, and Josh Grant, AHRMA
attracted a large crowd of curious race fans all day long who were
looking to learn more about these vintage marvels and even some
looking to take a trip down memory lane to share stories with their
families. Even the youth took an interest and stopped and
stared at the beautiful preservation of these motorcycles. Many
people had no clue that a vintage racing association even existed.
Many pictures were taken and stories shared. Anaheim was the
perfect opportunity for AHRMA to publicize its amazing story -

Sometimes
working as a volunteer you start to think “Why am I here,
working this hard. I got up at 0 dark 30, unloaded the
display, set up everything just right. Why?? I could have
slept in, got up and went out to the shop and played all day.
Why come here?" Then something happens and you know why.
My moment came about midday. Suddenly, down the display
road came an elderly man in his late 60’s, early 70’s with two
younger men and a small boy in tow. They stopped in front
of
AHRMA/Cal-VMX member, Roger Brophy’s fine 1960 Greeves.
The older of the two men following the older gentleman said “Hey
Dad, that’s just like your old bike ~ Yeah”. The younger
man put down his son and said “That’s cool Grandpa”. The
little boy then went over, put his hand on the front wheel and
gave a smile to his great grandpa. They all turn, walked
away and after a few steps the old man turned his head looking
back while the gleam in his eye shined a little brighter.
A moment on the “Field of Dreams?” I hope so. My pay,
priceless! -

Member...
In the absence of AHRMA's Southwest Regional Coordinator and
Westcoast Supercross Booth Liaison Tami Rice, Lance Brown
graciously stepped up to the plate to represent the vintage
world in her absence. At this time, Lance would like thank
his volunteers for their hard work. He quotes "What a nice
bunch of people to work with. Their bikes were
outstanding!! Great job guys!!". Lance is looking
forward to Anaheim III on February 7th. Lance is one of
the few staying back to promote AHRMA at this venue, most
members will be making the journey to Arizona for the opening
round of AHRMA's Trials, Cross Country, Vintage and
Post-Vintage National Series. For more information on the
event, please visit us at
